An estimate, not a promise. It assumes a south-facing, unshaded spot at 30°, North West England, about 700 kWh a year from an 800W kit (Energy Saving Trust), 40–70% of it used at home, and the Ofgem price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh (1 Oct to 31 Dec 2026). Electricity you send to the grid isn't paid for. Your result will vary with location, shade and when you use electricity.

Bright coastal skies

Made for the North East coast

Open skies by the sea mean lots of light on the panels. Ground kits are held down by concrete blocks, and the maker gives the exact number for each wind speed, so they stay put when it's breezy.

Questions we get asked locally

Does plug-in solar work in the North East?

Yes, though you'll make a bit less than further south. Yes. Our figures are based on North West England, which gets a similar amount of sun over the year, and long North East summer days keep the panels working from early morning to late evening.

Who do I tell about it?

Register the kit free at myplugin.solar before you first use it. That lets Northern Powergrid, the network operator for the North East, know it's there. Tell your home insurer too.

I rent a flat in Jesmond. Can I have one?

Possibly, with your landlord's written permission first. If you're in a flat, check the yard is yours to use.

Can you fit it for me?

Not yet. Fitting and site checks are coming soon. Sign up and we'll tell you when they're live. Kits are designed for you to set up yourself.
